Leaf helps belfast law firm migrate to cloud

One of Northern Ireland’s leading IT and Communications companies, Leaf, has completed a cloud computing and virtual desktop deal with long established Belfast law firm, MTB (McCartan Turkington Breen), which is expected to make substantial savings to the firm over the next five years.

The deal includes a complete IT infrastructure re-fresh to create a private and secure virtual computing environment, enabling staff to run a virtual desktop from an ipad or laptop and for all IT support to be completed in the cloud. The work was completed in less than eight weeks and represents a significant investment.

Ernie Telford, Senior Partner at MTB, said: “The solution delivered by Leaf not only provides our firm with business benefits such as increased productivity due to staff ability to complete work while travelling or waiting between court sessions, but it also enables us to meet our clients needs and growing demand for security and availability.”

The new system has significantly reduced the number of physical servers and enabled MTB to enhance its business continuity with a complete off site back-up which means the firm can run its entire business from the cloud if required.

Steven Goldblatt, Founder and Managing Director of Leaf, said: “More and more businesses are realising the benefits of cloud computing both in terms of return on investment and operational efficiency. We are seeing an increasing number of local SMEs who are taking cloud computing very seriously due to the difference it can make to productivity and the bottom line.”

MTB was established in 1920 and now has 60 staff, including three new partners who were appointed this year. The firm’s key focus is litigation, however it has seen an increase in other core areas of work such as corporate & commercial law, residential conveyancing and administration of estates. MTB’s investment in new technology will also enable the Belfast office to stay in close contact with its Dublin office, allowing an all-island legal proposition for clients.

Leaf was recently placed in Deloitte’s Fast50 for the second successive year and is ranked the top IT infrastructure company in the prestigious list. The IT and Communications company is one of only four Irish providers accessed from the Cloud. Leaf is also IBM’s chosen growth partner in Northern Ireland and is Cisco’s key Premier Partner to the SME Market in Northern Ireland.
